The students are guided in the discovery of music in many different ways. Firstly, the students are exposed to guided listening and are encouraged to use their body movement in a rhythmic way. They are also subject to rhythmic and melodic dictation, exercises of notation on a pentagram and to the realization of metrical texts as a base for rhythmic compositions. Finally, they’ll have to study the main historical repertoire related to the musical tradition and will be able to use the keyboard in class for short melodies which they will read on a music sheet.
The lessons take place in the classroom, in the gym and in the Music Laboratory
The choir activities are led on a weekly basis by Prof. Forlani in Malpighi Audinot and by Prof. Di Gregorio at Villa Revedin.
These activities are designed to enrich the students’ musical experience and to help them learn how to work together in order to create a unique piece of music through singing.
The choirs perform during the Malpighi Schools’ traditional events: Christmas Night and the Open House events during the end of May.
It is possible to study guitar or piano during the afternoon as well, as part of the Afternoon Laboratories (both in Audinot and Revedin, not included in the tuition)

2 hours per week are reserved for the study of Music: individual instrument lesson and group lesson characterized by the learning of musical theory and group practice.
As of 2018, as a result of DM 382 of May 11, 2018, the new levels of training in the Conservatory have been defined and it has been stipulated that the period prior to University Higher Education may have a maximum duration of three years. This has greatly and inevitably shifted the level of preparation required to enter the Musical Conservatory, delegating basic and pre-academic training to external institutions (music-oriented middle schools, music high schools, and affiliated music schools).
For some time now, Malpighi Middle Schools has had an agreement with the G.B. Martini Conservatory of Bologna to entrust pre-academic training and organize PIANO, GUITAR, TRAVERSE FLUTE, VIOLIN, SAXOPHONE courses, which are held in the afternoons at Malpighi Audinot (43 Audinot Street).
The teachers are multi-degree graduates and in possession of a distinguished teaching and concert curriculum.
This program offers high level courses that are equally divided between the study of the musical instrument and the study of basic musical subjects (theory, ear training, rhythmic reading, music theory) with the aim of bringing the children to the level required in order to enter the Musical Conservatory in an appropriate number of years and for the desired musical instrument.
At the end of the teaching activities, each year, a moment of skills verification is held so as to encourage the students by setting a concrete goal for them. During the school year, there also are some collective practice sessions (essays, concerts and active participation in middle school music activities).
Pre-academic courses are open to all students who wish to attend, including students of non-Malpighi Schools, with no age restrictions.
Students enrolled in Malpighi Middle Schools can decide to follow the pre-academic program in the two hours dedicated to the personalised program in order to create a fruitful synergy between classic middle school attendance and a Musical Conservatory preparation, all during curricular hours.
